You might have used IDM for windows to increase your download speed, Here i will be explaining you about opensource download manager called Xtream Download Manager(XDM) which is wirtten in Java. This is an cross platform Application works well on linux, Windows,Mac OS X

Xtream Download manager is a powerfull download manager and it is Free Open-Source Software(FOSS). It allows you to controlle your downloads and it can be easily integrated with the browsers like Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera etc.

It becomes easier to grab the stuff from youtube, Metacafe and other website with the help of XDM. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, firewalls, Cookies, FTP protocols etc.Hence it is an java base application it works well in multiple platforms like Linux, Windows amd Mac OS X.

Note: XDM downloads the file maximum possible speed (up to 500% faster speed)

Installing XDM in Linux

Xtream Download Manager can be installed in linux in two ways one is by downloading DEB file and the other is by using PPA repository.


Here I will Show you how to install XDM in Ubuntu 16.04 with the help of PPA

All you have to do is run these codes one by on in terminal window

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xdman
